This paper contextualizes Business Intelligence (BI) as a mechanism which helps business improve productivity in companies; it contributes to the generation of accurate and timely knowledge in order to make management decisions in times of change and globalization. Therefore, the article presents some of the features, components and stages of implementation in companies. After, it shows the analysis of free software tools which are applied to BI and the benefits for business use related to the software mentioning some of the most reliable data bases, extraction tools, transformation and loading, reports and analysis.
